Garry Trudeau is an American cartoonist and the husband of Jane Pauley, an American television host and author who has worked in news since 1972.

The couple got married in Pauley married in 1980; they have three children and two grandchildren.

Jane Pauley and Garry Trudeau met through a mutual friend, TV journalist Tom Brokaw. During the 1970s, he was Pauley’s co-host on NBC’s Today show, but he was also friends with Trudeau.

Pauley told Ability Magazine that she met Trudeau at a dinner party hosted by Brokaw and his wife. “It absolutely was a setup,” Pauley said in retrospect. And it was effective!”

Garry Trudeau is best known for creating the comic strip Doonesbury. Trudeau is also the creator and executive producer of Alpha House, a political comedy series on Amazon Studios.

Garry Trudeau has written extensively about military issues since the Gulf War in 1991. He has received the Department of the Army’s Commander’s Award for Public Service, Disabled American Veterans’ Commander’s Award,  the Yale School of Medicine’s Mental Health Research Advocacy Award, and a stipend.
